Learning to Sketch

A few years ago I was asked to take a beginner's sketching class. Pat Blair, the instructor and a dear friend, encouraged me to keep at it. I sometimes see photos or wildlife scenes that catch my attention; so I have tried to replicate them with pencil and paper. Some turned out ok, some not so well, but all of them were challenging and fun to do.

Most of the sketches are done from photographs and a few are from memory. Once in a while I dabble with charcoal or colored pencil. I have tried watercolors, too, but I don't have the patience often required while one waits for the paper to dry in between stages.

I have left names out, but you may recognize some of the faces. Enjoy!
